Before the Meeting
The Marine Corps League just like the Marine Corps is full of commeradery. When the meeting starts, the doors are secured so you don't want to be late. If you want to come by, come by early to sit and enjoy a beer beforehand. You'll get to meet some of the members before the meeting starts.

Detachment 1144 meets at the VFW Post at 510 Alabama Ave. in DeLand.

We thank the VFW for providing meeting space to us at no charge to help us keep our operating costs down.

Access to the VFW post is usually restricted to Veterans of Foreign Wars but they appreciate the business and atmosphere that the detachment brings to them. VFW Post 2380 provides us with a place to meet and have inexpensive drinks as well as the chance to tell some stories, old and new.

During the Meeting
It's not all fun and games. Detachment 1144 is serious about what it does when it's time to do it. No matter if it's aiding fellow Marines and their families or fundraising for the local community.

Our meetings are like those of other structured organizations. We discuss how much money we have and what we're going to do with it. Talk about upcoming events such as parades and festivals then determine how we can be a part of them. One of the tasks of the Marine Corps League is to keep the spirit of the Marine Corps alive so we are always looking for ways to keep ourselves in front of the community.

After the Meeting
It IS back to fun and games.

Joining the Marine Corps League is easy... if you qualify.

Just like the Marine Corps, there are certain types of people we look for and accept. If you are a current Marine or FMF Corpsman, great! You're pretty much in. If you're a former Marine, Corpsman or a previous member of another service, have your DD-214 handy to show you were honorably discharged.

Beyond these basics, we are looking for good hearted people. You don't need to be in shape, you don't need to be young or old. You don't have to have been in combat.

Come by to meet us and we can talk about the details.

Every Thursday is Marine Corps night at the VFW. At about 6:30 many of the detachment members meet for drinks and dinner.

The VFW provides us with free dinner (although you'll have to buy drinks for the house if you don't tip them) and they ALWAYS make us feel welcome. There are special tables set aside just for us. And remember... the first Thurday is Meeting Night..
